Do Your Computer Skills Measure Up?
Information professionals now have the chance to measure and improve their
computer skills as part of an online training program, the ICT Skills
Benchmark, created by Learningfast, a Company of University and
one of Australia's leading online educational providers.
The ICT Skills Benchmark is a learning and assessment tool that includes
pretesting to assess individual training requirements based on skills gaps,
self paced interactive training, online manuals, post-testing and student
administration.
The program involves eight core IT competencies covering core information
technology concepts; such as the functions of a personal computer, the internet
and networks, searching the internet effectively, word processing,
spreadsheets, presentations and drawings and databases/filing systems.
The Brisbane City Council Library Service was the first public library network
to offer Learningfast's resources available on a large scale. Brisbane
libraries offer a range of Learningfast programs, including the ICT
Skills Benchmark and TeachMe, a self paced, interactive learning tool for
popular computer software, as well as the online reference tool Electric
Library Australia.
The web-based training solutions provide an efficient and cost-effective means
of providing training solutions for library staff and their patrons.
Other public libraries to join the ICT Skills Benchmark program include:
-
City of Logan and Maroochy Libraries in Queensland;
-
City of Frankston, Moonee Valley City Council, City of Hobsons Bay, City of
Gannawarra and Casey Cardinia Regional Library Service in Victoria;
-
ACT Library Services;
-
City of Canterbury in New South Wales;
-
City of Salisbury, City of Penola, City of Stirling and Barossa Council in
South Australia.
These decisions by Libraries to utilise the flexible e-learning solutions
indicate the growing acceptance of online learning and training in the
workplace.
Learningfast also provide e-learning services to blue chip corporate and
educational clients such as BHP, ANZ, Bayer, Norwich Union, the University of
South Australia, University of Melbourne, University, Queensland
University, La Trobe University and the University of Oklahoma USA.
Learningfast provides free online access to evaluate the program on
request.
