Victorian Government 2002 Student ICT Excellence Fellowship receiptant
Michael Kandelaars
The Victorian Government's skills x knowledge = growth strategy identifies the
need for communities to invest in, and apply, skills and knowledge related to
information and communications technologies in order to take advantage of the
opportunities available. One of the main focus areas of the skills x knowledge
= growth strategy is 'encouraging entrepreneurship and specialist skills'.
Within a school environment this requires a program that will attract young
people into the ICT industry by establishing learning contexts that enable
students to apply ICT in practical settings. Such a program also needs to allow
students to participate in entrepreneurial activities and provide students with
a high aptitude in ICT with access to appropriate role models and opportunities
to participate in real ICT projects. The Student ICT Excellence Fellowship's
are awarded to the brightest and best students making use of ICT at the end of
year 11.
The award includes the opportunity to work in an ICT-based industry alongside a
practising ICT mentor. Learningfast is providing this opportunity to
Michael Kandelaars who's already impressive achievements include 2001 Java
Scholarship Winner and 2000 Distinction in the Australian Schools Computer
Competition.

Fellowship award at the presentation night held at the State Library of
